Prevention
The Fire Prevention Division performs a multitude of tasks designed and intended to reduce the number of fires and other non-specific emergencies that occur in our community. Through proactive code enforcement, engineering reviews, and public engagement, the division works to eliminate hazards before they can cause harm.
Inspection Programs
• Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Inspections: Assessing properties in high-risk zones to manage hazardous vegetation and establish defensible space against wildfires.
• Special Event Safety: Inspecting and permitting community gatherings, festivals, and public events to verify operational safety and clear emergency access.
• Business Inspections: Conduct Fire and Life Inspections for our Business community.
Plan Review & New Construction
• Construction Document Reviews: Evaluating building plans for new residential and commercial structures, including major project renovations, to ensure complete code compliance.
• Fire Protection Systems: Reviewing and approving design plans for life-safety systems, including automated fire sprinklers and fire alarms.
• Field Inspections: Conducting field verifications of new building construction and system installations prior to occupancy.
• TRPA PRE-APPROVAL: Development pre-approval.
Public Education & Business Training
• School District Programs: Delivering customized fire safety education and emergency response training across local school campuses.
• Business Community Outreach: Hosting public awareness campaigns and offering hands-on fire extinguisher training for local business owners and staff.
Department Support & Inter-Division Training
• Internal Code Training: Educating and training other divisions within the department on updated fire codes, inspection techniques, and enforcement practices to maintain organizational alignment.
